Privacy notice

Hammer & Co is a fictional auction house. This site is a design demonstration. It has no back end, no analytics, no cookies set by us and no tracking of any kind. The forms on it do not submit anywhere and nothing typed into them leaves the browser.

The only data stored on your device is a single localStorage entry under the key hammerco:setting:v1, written by the site customizer to remember any colour, typeface or business-identity changes you make while looking at it. Clearing your browser data removes it. It is never transmitted anywhere.

The remainder of this notice describes what a genuine auction house of this kind would collect and why, and is included so that the demonstration is complete. None of it is happening here.

Identity and contact details when you register to bid, including a form of photographic identification and, on higher-value lots, a bank reference. Bidding history, invoices and payment records. Correspondence with departments. Shipping addresses and customs documentation where property is exported.

To perform the contract of sale, which cannot be done without knowing who bought the lot. To meet anti-money-laundering obligations, which require a house to know the identity and source of funds of its buyers above statutory thresholds. To comply with tax and customs law. To pursue payment where an invoice is unpaid.

Anti-money-laundering records must be kept for a period fixed by statute, and cannot be deleted at request during that period even where consent is withdrawn.

Shippers and customs brokers, where property is exported. Payment processors and banks. Professional advisers where a dispute arises. Regulators and law-enforcement agencies where required by law.

A house of this kind does not sell client lists and does not share bidding history between clients. The identity of an underbidder is disclosed to a seller only where the seller has instructed the house to approach them after a lot has passed, and then only with the underbidder's consent.

Under applicable law you would have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased where there is no overriding legal obligation to keep it, to object to processing for marketing, and to complain to a supervisory authority.

Since this site holds nothing, there is nothing to request. On a real site, this is where the contact route for such a request would be published.
