Catalogue note
A pronkstilleven of considerable ambition, the tazza rendered with a jeweller’s attention and the drapery laid in with a confidence the fruit does not quite match. The lemon at the left, half-peeled with the rind falling over the table edge, is the passage on which the picture should be judged.

On its original canvas, unlined — unusual and desirable at this size. A stable craquelure throughout. Minor retouching along the extreme edges consistent with an old change of stretcher. The varnish is even and only lightly discoloured.
Ultraviolet. Retouching confined to the edges. The tazza and the lemon are entirely original.
