Anti-sniping
A bid placed inside the final 3 minutes of this lot extends its close by a further 3 minutes, from the moment of the bid, and does so again for every bid inside the window. Only this lot is extended; the rest of the sale runs on. The rule exists so that a lot is won by the highest bidder rather than by whoever has the fastest connection in the last two seconds. Catalogue note
In the Corinthian manner, with detachable nozzles. Loaded, as is invariable in candlesticks of this pattern; the weight given below is gross and the silver content is a small fraction of it. The department mentions this because loaded candlesticks are regularly offered elsewhere by gross weight as though it meant something.

Both fully marked. Minor bruising to one base rim. One nozzle slightly out of round but seats. The loading is sound with no leakage of pitch. Some old polishing wear to the high points of the capitals.
